In time for the Monaco Grand Prix tomorrow: some live shots of the RM011-Lotus

Richard just released this one: the RM011 – Lotus Romain Grosjean in NTPT carbon. (http://news.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-112/pi-6432588/ti-931988/s-0/t-news-central-richard-mille-partners-romain-grosjean-at-the-2014-monaco-grand-prix/ ) Only just strapped to the wrist of the driver at the Monaco Grand Prix! But the Harrods Richard Mille Boutique already has one!! Yes, hardly released to the driver, let alone the rest of the world, and I was able to try it on my wrist today.

Once again, loved the feel of the watch the wrist; the carbon is both comfortable and inert to the skin. No irritable feel. But it looks and feels so damn cool. The all black case and parts still catch the light and reflect different surfaces, bring various aspects of the watch into focus. The colour of the watch elements are influenced by the same colouring scheme for the Lotus team. Admittedly, the colours for Team Lotus are a natural fit for Richard Mille.

The watch is the RM011, which certainly has a number of limited editions associated with it, but this one is different, and for want of a better word: special. This season, this version of the RM011 is being worn by Grosjean himself, in the car, as well as outside of it. It will go through testing in Lotus E22 car. That might seem innocuous, but Grosjean has been known to survive some fairly spectacular collusions, and hence his choice of watch being one that is known to be shock tested to the extreme.

Sharp eyed Purists will also notice one other unique quality to the Harrods watch over the press release version: the mid section of the watch is now all in NTPT carbon, and not the rose gold as depicted in the press release. A good thing in my book as the watch retains the lightweight rigid feel to it.

Get down to Harrods if you want to see it. I have a strong feeling it wont be in the Boutique for long…..

So while Romain Grosjean has cause to doubt the Pirelli tires he is on (http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/grosjean-hits-out-at-wooden-super-soft-tyres/), he has no doubts over the watch he is wearing.

[Looks as good on my wrist as it does on his! Well, I think so!]

Just to clarify... both versions will be available : with case centre in NTPT Carbon OR Rose gold. The latter will be available for you to check out in the Geneva boutique very soon (ie as of today/tomorrow) !! ;-) Rob

Cool - thanks for the clarification Rob. Just like the RM050 version then.

Thanks Andrew for bringing these pictures here. I must say I'm not really attracted by some of the last novelties when they mix too much colors. Replacing the gold sides by the carbon is, hence, a good move for this one. The new carbon layered material is...

to comes from the NTPT carbon naturally. NTPT carbon is layer upon layer of carbon (about 600 'slices') and hence, the machining of the carbon (that presents great difficulties over 'normal' materials such as steel, titanium, or gold) gives rise to the pa...
