Independents: Yes, but I've heard that the cutting tools, etc. are more worn with harder metals...

...so it's not so much the hand work as the production 'waste.'

Rolex: So many choices there...

Independents: The only reason I've ever heard/read is that platinum is more difficult to work...

...resulting in having to use more tools, etc. Don't know if it's true or not. Not sure that justifies doubling the price for a less costly metal...

Independents: Steel: The Poor Man's Platinum®

Platinum is great, but manufacturers get a huge premium for it over gold. I guess it's tougher to work with, but I think it's a marketing ploy we've all fallen for. I checked today's metal prices.
