FPJ vs PP

Nov 16, 2010,03:38 AM

I have the FPJ you are considering (38 mm) black label...it is superb.  I have had no problems and it as accurate as any of my PPs, ALSs, APs, etc...perhaps more so.

The best advice is get what you love - not what others suggest.

I love the 5127 and someday may get it.  I went with the Journe  for the look and feel of watch, the innovation behind the movement and design, and the fact that is both absolute and relative terms, it is a rare animal.

On a different note, looked at a 5159 yesterday...wow...my next watch!

Calatrava 5127 vs FP Journe Octa automatique reserve

 By: christophe_123 : November 15th, 2010-13:37
Hi Patek lovers, I am thinking of aquiring the watch of my life and the Calatrava 5127 has been in my mind for a few years. I really appreciate the elegance in its simplicity, its harmonious curves and the finish of the movement. However I recently discov...

First of all, if you choose an Octa Automatique, be sure that you get a great watch. I find it more appealing than the 5127: the caliber is really beautiful and the dial more original. Of course, with Patek, you will get a watch from the most prestigious ...

wow this fpj is

very nice! first time i see the movement. I could live with both the fpj and the pp. just looking at the movement i have an idea why the fpj is more expensive....

The FP Journe has got also a big date and a small second ...

... compared to the PP 5127. Try both on and see which one is best looking on the wrist. At times the watch can look quite different as expected on the wrist. If you can not decide, than go for the PP as it is the benchmark, as you very correctly mentione...

Welcome to the forum..... Between the two, I would choose the FPJ.... However it is not a "fair" comparison between these two watches, as the FPJ has a double date and a power reserve (as the Count has mentioned)...... Both manufacturers are top quality a...

... more than one disc, therefore a two disc display is defining a big date. So any double date is a big date. I know quite anal (I was also quite shocked that the English use this for "pingelig"=fussy , when I heard the first time the usage of this word)...

That's not always the case

The Sarpaneva big-date uses a single wheel, just with the numerals vertically so they can be much larger A

Not convinced with the Sarpaneva being a big date...

... contraire to the "double date": a big date showing is also not a real big date COMPLICATION. The difficulties of a clear, straight two digit display of the date makes it a complication and not a single date wheel with larger numerals only. Regards Mor...

I'm not disagreeing with the difficulty

I'm only disputing your assertion that the term "Big Date" requires a 2-wheel setup. As it's commonly used big, in this case, just means big. Since this complication, unlike say a pointer date versus a guichet date, is rather recent, we don't have much hi...

That is an argument: no historic reference. But in German literature it is ...

As others have mentioned, the Journe and Patek are two different creatures, both design and watch function wise. The Journe does have the PR function, big date, and off center seconds dial as others have discussed. The Patek is very nice but admittedly ra...

PP has a much more reliable movement and as it will be your "life watch", the reliability should be one of the most relevant concerns of you. FPJ is very innovative, however, you should be aware that the techinical quality (not the decorative) and quality...

FPJ problems,

I had FPJ Octa, there a was a problem with big date. The watch had been repaired twice. Then sold out. My choice is Patek

Thank you very much for your replies. I think you raised a very important point in the fact the Patek has a long history of reliable movement but FP Journe doesn't. I also read that there were a few issues with Journe, mainly with the first batch of Octa....

I hear the 5127s are gone only whats in inventory at the ADs. I tried to order in rose and was told no way to get them by the AD. I had read earlier they were only put back in the 2010 cat. because a few were still in the factory and earmarked for the US.

One for FPJ

Hi! I am the fortunate owner of 3 Pateks, i love them all and, being in these shoes, i would take the Journe. Being in yours, i would try both, ask my wife, and decide. Probably for FPJ again. There's something magnetic in this watch, i do not know what. ...
