Well, there is the issue of "who enjoys it next"

That's the optimist view. The pessimist view is "you left me to deal with all this stuff?"
I can only refer you to collectors who are still collecting up until the end. It's not 'stuff' to them, it's joy.
We did a walk the other day of a
giant house and property run by an elderly widow. She wasn't burdened with it by a husband who left it behind; she bought it herself, to have something to do.
I read up on the history of the house and realized that the man who built it in the first place was a local banker who never was allowed to have toys when he was a child. When he died he had 7000 model trains AND a couple real train cars which he used to travel in on holidays (I guess you could charter a locomotive to pull your cars around). He had clocks and watches and stuffed animals, and he bought a Faucault Pendulum for our Natural History museum.
Hmmm ... I put 2 and 2 together and realized his widow used to come to our church, and dated the widowed father of a friend my age. It's a small world.
Keep collecting if it still keeps your heart ticking faster.
