Re: RM10--what does it mean for the RM 05??--your best guess please....

Hi PamLover,

I share your conclusions regarding the RM005 vs. the RM010. Although I must say that maybe you should look at the discontinuation of the RM005 as a way for RM to move on. By that I mean that RM's success is partly based upon looking ahead and not back. Personally I like that there are models that are slightly improved and then others discontinued. It gives me a sense that the company is moving ahead. The RM010 will one day, hopefully sooner than later, be replaced by a RM0??. And the replacement will again be a slight improvement...

I never owned a RM005 because it is too small for me. Would I own a RM005 and it would look nice on my wrist than the 010 would not be a concern. I am not certain as to the future second hand market price of the RM005. Time will tell, however I am certain that nobody will find a bargain (anything over 50% list is not a bargain...). Second hand prices in the mid 20's are very high, much higher than any other brand (some LEs and Pateks excluded). What I am sure is that if I had a small wrist I would get my hands on a RM005 before they are gone. Believe me, from what I know there are no smaller RM's at entry level prices planed in the near future.

P.s I also believe that the RM002 should be retired...

RM10--what does it mean for the RM 05??--your best guess please....

 By: PamLover : July 28th, 2006-05:17
I predicted on this forum, shortly after the RM 10 was announced, that RM would discontinue to 05 model. Every once and a while I get it right. What does the decision to discontinue a popular model line so soon mean to existing owners of the 05, in favor ...

my speculation

RM005 is not really my favorite model,

 By: Carlfa : July 29th, 2006-08:08
I am really looking forward to the RM010. It is also actually an upgraded entry level basic model but I like it better than 005 (only from the pictures I saw here on Purists). So whatever happens to price and collectabillity of 005 doesn't bother me. It's...

A few thoughts to keep in mind....

 By: 219 : July 29th, 2006-09:21
1. As far as I know, the RUMOUR that the RM005 will be discontinued is the fact that the market has pushed back on the 005. It was thought that the 005 and 010 would co-exist, but the orders for the 005 are making it uneconomic for the line to continue. H...

there are customers and there are customers

Hi Andrew, I think it bears keeping in mind that IF the 005 has been or will be discontinued due to lack of dealer orders that doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of interest from consumers, it just means that the dealers anticipate a lack of interest and/...

And interestingly enough, I have heard of more than one case where

DEALERS were contacting previous customers of the 005 offering to buy it back, since they have customers who just HAVE TO HAVE one... this is a strange market we are in... TM

even more interesting

just to let you know the RM010 are out....and I'm wearing mine tonight.. size is just right 4 me....

You say "the market has pushed back on the 05 ...uneconomic to continue" ...I say ...

 By: PamLover : July 30th, 2006-06:06
...Andrew, what does than really mean? From what I know, the 05 was selling well, since it was the only under 100K RM model, and appealed to many very saavy watch buyers (TM and so many others on this forum) and still does. When RM 10 was announced, I sta...

RM005 strap

 By: Mike : July 31st, 2006-08:20
According to all the RM literature the RM005 is a true sport watch...swim, play tennis, ski etc. I get the feeling that most of the owners have not subjected their watches to anything more than a spectator sport? Otherwise, why leather straps??? Should no...

The strap is actually quite high tech and to call it "just a leather strap"

 By: ThomasM : August 1st, 2006-09:09
or "satin strap" is a gross understatement. I have no problem playing tennis or working on my car with mine on; I know several others in here who do as well. Why would you reach the conclusion you do in your post? Many people use even "plain old leather s...

Strap

 By: Mike : August 1st, 2006-01:13
I find leather straps very uncomfortable once they get all sweaty, stinky, and hard once they dry off. A composite would be more appropriate for this high tech watch, then you could even use them for water sports.
